Sports, Athletic Supporters, and Protection

According to Dr. Gabe Mirkin, athletic supporters aren’t necessary for most sports, and do nothing to prevent hernias.  This makes perfect sense, otherwise how could hunter-gatherers have run around, climbed trees, swam, lifted logs, etc., without problems.  He says that the only time you might need one is in a sport where you could get a twisted testicle, such as diving into water.

On the other hand, in violent contact sports, protection is necessary.  Furthering this cause, a new and better type of protective cup has been developed, called the “NuttyBuddy.”  It’s supposed to protect you from almost anything you might encounter in sports.

I suppose hunter-gatherers just didn’t play violent sports like we do today, which is no doubt another reason they were often healthier than us.  They got their thrill-seeking, death-defying, machismo instincts satisfied through trying to kill some sort of large dangerous animal, like a mammoth, and not get killed in the process.
